China’s support solicited to develop East and North 05 04 2009
China has extended support for road development projects exceeding 40 billion rupees. It is hoped that China will also contribute to development of the East and the North as well.
Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa chaired a meeting at the Presidential Secretariat on development projects handled by Chinese contractors in Sri Lanka. 12 Chinese firms have already launched road development projects in the island. Mr. Rajapaksa was confident that the Chinese Government will extend support for future development.
Basil Rajapaksa pointed out that 26 projects have been successfully launched with Chinese assistance. It is making a vital contribution to Sri Lankas development. He expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government to the Chinese Government, contractors and others including investors.
Minister Susantha Punchinilame, Chinas Ambassador to Sri Lanka Yang Xiuping, Highways Ministry Secretary S. Amarasekera and officials of the Road Development Authority attended this meeting.
