Electricity will be provided to the Northern Province under the Uthuru Wasanthaya programme..
At a meeting on the 21st of last month on the development of the Killinochchi and Mullativu Districts, Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa emphasised that priority should be given to the provision of electricity in the development of the Districts. The Ministry of Power and Energy will handle the programme under the supervision of Basil Rajapaksa and at the behest of the President. Accordingly, action was being taken to provide electricity to the Mullativu, Killinochchi, Oddusudan and Nedunkerni areas within a short period of 121 days.
In his address, Basil Rajapakse referred to their plans to light up the entire North as soon as possible. He said this was possible as the Security Forces had totally liberated the country from terrorism. He was speaking at the commissioning of an Electrification Scheme in the Mullaitivu District.
Government Agent Mullaitivu Emelda Sukumar who was present on the occasion lauded the programme. She said the civilians had not at all expected the provision of power supplies in this manner. They are fortunate to enjoy such facilities.
Electricity was provided to more areas yesterday under the patronage of Basil Rajapaksa. GA Kilinochchi K.Vedanayagam and Kilinochchi Commanding Officer Major General Channa Gunatilake were present.
Nedunkerni also received power supplies under the guidance of Mr. Rajapaksa. Mullaitivu Commanding Officer organised these activities.

Oddusudan also received power supplies under Basil Rajapaksas guidance. The arrangements were made by Commander of Task Force 8 Colonel Nissanka Wanniarachchi.
